OversizedWeapons

Some creatures, such as giants and pixies, wield weapons with different sized than those presented in the Player's Handbook. These unusually sized weapons have different characteristics, including damage, weight, range increment and reach.

Melee Weapon Size and Damage

If you design a particular weapon that is larger or smaller than the standard, you'll need to recalculate how much damage it deals. To determine the damage of a larger or smaller weapon, please review the chart below.

Tiny Damage Small Damage* Medium Damage Large Damage* Huge Damage Gargantuan Damage

1d6 1d8 1d10 2d10 3d10 4d10
1d8 1d10 1d12 2d12 3d12 4d12

*Most small and large sized characters, including the ones presented in the Players Handbook are comfortable wielding medium sized weapons. Small creatures can not wield medium weapons with the Heavy property. Small weapons lose the heavy property.

Reach Weapons

The reach property grows in potency as the weapon grows larger. A spear built for a giant will reach twice as far as one built for a human etc. As weapons are scaled down, the effectiveness of the reach property diminishes.

Bows and Crossbows

Ranged weapons do not scale in damage the way one would expect. As they get larger or smaller, the moving parts in these weapons lose potency and range and damage suffer as a result. Some larger versions can be made, and are often used a siege weapons.

Dragonpowder Weapons

Firearms experience even more problems scaling then other ranged weapons. Due to the costly nature of their production and the alchemical forces behind their propellant, firearms barely function if made smaller than medium sized. Larger varieties of some do exist in the form of cannons, and can be wielded in a manner similar to a regular firearm by large enough creatures.

The price for dragonpowder weapons and ammunition increases by 5x for each size category above medium.

Powder Kegs

A standard medium sized powder keg is approximately 10 inches high and contain enough powder to fill 6 powderhorns. Each size category up from their increases the volume of the barrel by 10x. They deal normal damage when they are full, and roughly half damage until they are half empty, at which the explosion is not powerful enough to burst the container and deal damage.
