Shayri elves are often travelers and vagabonds.

The Shayri curse, literally translated as "removed kinship" is the ultimate punishment for elven criminals. Initially enacted to banish the Silver Elves, it has been uses sparingly as time went on. Elves subject to the Shayri are stripped of their family names and all recognition of kinship to other elves. This punishment is especially cruel as the banished elf must spend their extremely long life as an exile from their own people.

Descendants of one subject to the shayri are also seen as shayri and are not viewed as kin to other elves.

Many victims of the Shayri curse commit suicide rather than face such a curse, while others travel human lands and are commonly accepted by those unfamiliar with elven customs.
